'Artists on the Beach' at the Jerwood Gallery, Hastings

Friday 18th July 2014

Exhibition runs 19 July - 15 October 2014
As part of the summer Jerwood Drawing Festival, this exhibition is an exclusive display of ten new works by Sir Quentin Blake: his artistic responses to his favourite works from the Jerwood Collection. The exhibition of drawings playfully explores the stories of artists in the collection from Sickert to Wallis, setting them in the context of life on Hastings beach and the surroundings of the Gallery itself.

Accompanying the display is a new gallery guide ‘Artists on the Beach: A Jerwood Gallery Notebook’, featuring the exhibition illustrations by Quentin Blake, which is on sale in the gallery shop priced £5.00.

The exhibition is part of the summer Jerwood Drawing Festival, which also includes a special exhibition Drawn Together: Artist as Selector. There will be a number of special drawing events and workshops throughout the summer for both adults and children.

To get a preview of the exhibition and some of the artist's ideas behind it, watch Quentin in Action in the exhibition gallery, describing his work and those paintings which inspired him in the Jerwood Collection.
