New Sennelier portraits on sale at Hastings Contemporary

Thursday 9th April 2020

As Artist Patron of Hastings Contemporary, Quentin is supporting the gallery through the public health crisis by creating new works for them to sell via their newly-opened online shop.

At present, they offer a changing selection of original Quentin Blake drawings and limited edition prints, all relating to exhibitions of his work which have appeared in the independent south coast arts venue.

Quentin's next exhibition, prophetically titled We Live in Worrying Times, and soon to be launched digitally (see further details, right), includes a series of works created using oil pastels from iconic French brand Sennelier.  Currently, he has a show in London's Coningsby Gallery of pieces worked in monochrome in the original black stick.  For Hastings Contemporary, he has embarked on an entirely new series of evocative portraits of both men and women, worked in a variety of Sennelier colours: purple, green and blue.  More than 20 of them have been cteated whilst Quentin has been in self-isolation during the coronavirus lockdown, showing no reduction in the speed and power of his creativity.
