Quentin joins the 'London is Open for Summer' campaign

Friday 11th August 2017

Sir Quentin Blake has captured Londoners in all their endless variety for a new illustration to go on display from today across the Underground network.

He has created the image to celebrate the capital as a welcoming city and to encourage tourists as part of Mayor Sadiq Khan's 'London is Open for Summer' campaign.   Posters will be on display throughout the summer period in over 240 of Transport for London's Tube stations in the capital.

Sir Quentin Blake said: "I did a drawing last year for the 'London is Open' evening at the Science Museum, so when I heard that there was an invitation for artists to put forward proposals to publicise the same idea this year, I put everything else aside and did it immediately."

Mr Khan said: "London is one of the most diverse, thrilling and fascinating cities in the world and it captures the imagination of everyone, young and old.  Sir Quentin Blake's wonderful illustration brings this spirit to life and shows that London is open to all.  Our great city is home to so many world-leading museums, galleries, attractions, parks and views - the list is endless - and there really is no greater place to explore over the school holidays. I'm saying loud and clear - London is open for business, creativity, ideas and open to everyone this summer."
