'20 odd questions' answered by Quentin Blake
Friday 20th December 2013
Quentin interviewed for the Wall Street Journal about his sources of inspiration
Quentin spoke to journalist Javier Espinoza about some of his recent projects, in particular the limited editions of Voltaire's 'Candide' (2011) and La Fontaine's 'Fables' (2013) for The Folio Society, welcoming the challenge of illustrating for adults instead of children.
He also spoke about collaborating 'with the words' when illustrating a text, recalling speaking to Roald Dahl about illustrating some of his books.
Work for hospital settings and public spaces has formed a large part of his work in recent years, where he has been mindful of the patients who use the spaces when creating his artwork, such as the work for a ward dedicated to the care of elderly mental health patients.
