Art in Hospitals, Creativity and Well-being Week 2016

Tuesday 14th June 2016

Invited to participate in a round-table discussion of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) inquiry into Arts, Health and Wellbeing, yesterday Quentin shared his experience of creating artworks for specific groups of patients, such as older mental health patients, younger people with eating disorders, and expectant mothers and their families.

The APPG inquiry, chaired jointly by Lord Howarth of Newport CBE and Jason McCartney MP, is working to inform policy recommendations by inviting practitioners, academics, policy makers, those with lived experience and managers of services to share their knowledge and experience in the field.

This was followed by an open event at St Thomas' Hospital, the first of 'Creativity and Well-being Week 2016'.  Following a performance by the Singing for Better Breathing Choir, from Lambeth and Southwark, Quentin again re-iterated the tangible benefit to patients acquired by receiving treatment in hospital environments which include art in many different forms.

He stated, "We are not just decorating walls but speaking to people in a visual language."
