A new chapter for 'Charlie'

Quentin illustrates a previously unpublished chapter from Roald Dahl's classic story
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', Roald Dahl's literary estate has released a previously unpublished chapter from an early draft of the story. Then titled 'Charlie's Chocolate Boy', the story includes ten children (instead of the familiar five), nine of whom come to a sticky end in Mr Wonka's factory.
The full text of the chapter, in which Wilbur Rice and Tommy Troutbeck get their just desserts in the 'Vanilla Fudge Room', was published in the Guardian Review on 30 August, alongside four new illustrations by Quentin Blake. Quentin described the challenges of illustrating both the book and this new chapter to BBC News on 29 August. Though 'Charlie' was first published in 1964, Quentin's involvement with the book did not begin until 1995, when he was commissioned by the publishers to re-illustrate the story in his distinctive style.
