Quentin Blake in Aytre
Friday 30th May 2014
Drawing workshop and talk at La Mediatheque, Aytre: 15 May 2014
Organisers were delighted that Quentin was able to participate in the festival dedicated to all things British at La Mediatheque in Aytre, near La Rochelle.
He led a drawing workshop for adults and teenagers with learning difficulties, which allowed the participants to try out their skills and glean tips and advice from the much-loved illustrator. Quentin demonstrated one technique using a watercolour pencil (pictured) made popular in his book with John Cassidy 'Drawing for the Artistically Undiscovered' (2000). The pencil line, when wetted with a brush, becomes like watercolour, taking the simple drawing off in another direction.
The evening saw Quentin giving a talk to an invited audience. The theme of his talk was his work, highlighting some of the many projects and books he has been involved with in France: such as the creation of a book in collaboration with 1800 French-speaking schoolchildren from across the globe (which became 'Un Bateau dans le Ciel') or the drawings he was commissioned to produce for L'Hopital Armand Trousseau near Paris in 2008.
