'Quentin Blake: Not in Books' online auction at Christie's
Friday 6th December 2019
After the resounding success of 2018’s Quentin Blake: A Retrospective, the Christie’s Books & Manuscripts department is delighted to offer another collection of works from the artist’s studio, sold to benefit two charities close to Quentin's heart: Greenpeace and Survival International. Quentin Blake: Not in Books comprises 204 drawings of playful creatures, fantastical scenarios and unusual individuals, who spring directly from Quentin Blake’s lively imagination, full of humour and empathy. It showcases the wide variety of work he has undertaken over the past decade, most of which were not intended for publication. The drawings show characters who may not be familiar, yet are unmistakeably ‘Quentin Blake’ in their joyful execution and characteristic style.
Quentin Blake commented, "I have a lot of drawings that are not in books, but in many ways, they nearly all seem to have a story in them. I am pleased to be able to share this collection of drawings with a wider audience so that readers and collectors may be able to enjoy imagining the many stories and scenarios they could be part of."
Bidding starts from £100, and the sale is open online from 10 - 17 December at www.christies.com/quentin-blake. Visit the site to browse all 204 Lots and to register as a bidder. The original works can be viewed at Christie's London saleroom in King Street at selected times from 6 December onwards.
