Quentin's work for Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity to be auctioned at Christie's
Monday 7th December 2020
Joanna Lumley OBE is to preside over a very special auction in aid of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity at Christie’s auction house in London on the 9th December. Joanna is a committed and long-serving Patron to the charity, which provides specialist nurses and support to seriously ill children.
The lots are part of a Valuable Books and Manuscripts sale, which showcases book illustration throughout the centuries, and include one-of-a-kind illustrations and pieces designed by the charity’s Co-President and renowned Roald Dahl illustrator, Sir Quentin Blake. Highlights include two stunning stained-glass window panels featuring Willy Wonka, Charlie and The BFG. The panels were created as test pieces for a stained-glass window installation, which was unveiled in January 2020 by the charity’s Royal Patron, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Four Roald Dahl Rare Disease Specialist Nurses - Janet, Jacqui, Tina and Sarah - were present at the unveiling along with Felicity Dahl, who founded the charity almost thirty years ago.
Other lots in this unique auction include four original and fun illustrations by Quentin of the charity’s mascot, Marvin the Marvellous Crocodile, alongside a Roald Dahl Specialist Nurse and children in their care. Guest artist Emily Woodard has also created a festive piece called ‘Christmas at Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity’, which depicts a number of well-known Roald Dahl characters dressing the Christmas tree at a hospital. Emily’s design can also be purchased as a Christmas card (e-card or print) via the Making a Difference website with donations going to the charity.
In person previews of the lots can be organised from the 3rd December to the 8th December by contacting the charity: [email protected]
