Cuckoo in a hedge-sparrow’s nest

from My Year, by Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl's text for 'My Year' was originally written to go inside 'The Roald Dahl Diary' (1991). Shortly after his death, the text was extracted and re-illustrated in gentle watercolours by Quentin Blake, turning the work into a commentary on wildlife, childhood reminiscences and the changing year (Jonathan Cape, 1993).
